Our renovation cost calculator and building calculators work out the materials for a job and what it costs in your city. Each one takes your measurements, gives the quantities (cubic metres of concrete, litres of paint, tiles, bricks, panels and posts) and prices the work from the rates in our cost guides.
Pick a calculator below. Every estimate links straight to a quote request with the job as you priced it.

How the calculators work
Each calculator does two things. First it works out the quantities: cubic metres of concrete, litres of paint, tiles, bricks, pavers, risers, litres of pool water. Every non-price figure it uses, such as bags per cubic metre, coverage per litre or the stair limits in the building code, is taken from a named source and checked against that source when the page is built. The sources include the National Construction Code, Cement Australia, Dulux, Clean Energy Regulator, CHOICE, Midland Brick, AstralPool, Austral Masonry, among others, and each calculator names its own.
Then it prices the job from our cost guides: the low, typical and high figures for 15 Australian cities, so you see a range rather than a single number.
Renovation cost calculator FAQs
Are the calculators free?
Yes. All 17 calculators are free to use, with no sign-up. Each one works out the quantities for the job and prices it, and you can send the estimate to local tradies for quotes if you want them.
Where do the prices come from?
From our cost guides. Every calculator multiplies your quantities by the low, typical and high figures in the price table of the matching guide for your city, so the estimate moves with the guide when its prices are verified again (most recently October 2026).
Which cities do the calculators cover?
15 cities plus a national figure: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Canberra, Hobart, Darwin, Newcastle, Geelong, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Wollongong and Byron Bay. Pick your city in any calculator to use that city's prices.
How accurate is a renovation cost calculator?
It is an estimate built from typical price ranges, not a quote. Access, the condition of the site, the materials you choose and the time of year all move a real price, which is why each calculator shows a low-to-high range and links to quotes for your job.
Can I put a calculator on my own website?
Yes. The calculator embed page gives you a copy-and-paste code for any of them, with the prices for the city you choose.
Already have a quote?
The quote checker compares a quote you have been given with the price range for that job in your city.
