How much do blinds & shutters cost in Australia?
Blinds and shutters across Australia are priced per window, per square metre or per blind, depending on the product. Supplied and installed, a custom roller blind is $150–$350 per window, typically $220; plantation shutters fully fitted to a standard window are $450–$750; and a manual external roller shutter is $400–$850 per window.
The house decides which rows a quote uses. A Queenslander or an elevated tropical home suits venetians, roller shutters and verandah blinds; a terrace or period cottage suits timber venetians and plantation shutters; a newer home in a growth suburb starts with rollers and an alfresco blind; and an apartment needs blinds that fit the reveal and the balcony. These bands are national: the sources do not support separate city prices, so every city page shows the same rows.

Prices are as published by blind and shutter suppliers, installers and cost guides, fetched in November 2026. The bands on this page apply in every city below: the sources do not support separate city prices, so each city page shows the same rows. What each city page adds is local buying guidance - the housing, the weather and the outdoor living that decide which rows a job draws on.
What Australian Blinds & Shutters Jobs Actually Cost
Three Australian jobs priced from this page's rows. Each names the row it draws on; your own quote prices your windows.
Terrace front rooms
Two tall street-facing windows in a period terrace fitted with plantation shutters, each priced as a standard window at $450–$750 fully fitted, typically $650; an oversized window moves to the area row at $300–$800 per square metre.
West-facing bedroom
One bedroom window under the afternoon sun fitted with a manual external roller shutter at $400–$850 per window, typically $600, or a motorised one at $700–$1,200.
Alfresco in a new estate
The open side of an alfresco area closed in with a manual zip blind, priced on the opening at $300–$450 per square metre, typically $350.
Internal Blinds and Curtains: Blinds & Shutters Cost in Australia by Type
Inside the house the price follows the blind type. A custom roller blind is $150–$350 per window and an aluminium or PVC venetian $150–$350; a vertical blind is $150–$350. A timber venetian with a 50 mm slat runs $300–$600, a honeycomb (cellular) blind $200–$450, a double day/night roller $180–$400 and a custom Roman blind $250–$500, typically $420.
A common pattern is to choose internal blinds by room: blockout rollers in bedrooms, light-filtering rollers or sheers in living areas, aluminium or PVC venetians at $150–$350 in bathrooms and laundries, and Roman blinds at $250–$500 where a softer look is wanted.
Climate shifts the choice. In the cooler south, honeycomb blinds at $200–$450 and made-to-measure curtains add a layer for winter; in the tropics, wipe-clean venetians suit humid rooms and double day/night rollers at $180–$400 handle the early sunrise.
Curtains sit beside blinds rather than inside them: made-to-measure curtains are $300–$600 per window and S-fold sheers $400–$1,200. Motorising an internal blind adds $150–$350 per blind for a battery or retrofit motor.
Plantation and Roller Shutters: Blinds & Shutters Cost in Australia
Plantation shutters in PVC or basswood are priced two ways: $300–$800 per square metre installed, or $450–$750 per window for a standard window of about 1200 x 1200 mm, fully fitted. External window roller shutters are a different product - an aluminium curtain that rolls down outside the glass - at $400–$850 per window with a manual winder and $700–$1,200 with a motor.
Plantation shutters are priced two ways, so the window size decides the row: close to the 1200 x 1200 mm standard, use the per-window row at $450–$750; for bays, French doors and tall openings, the area row at $300–$800 per square metre. They suit period homes and renovated houses where tilting louvres keep privacy from the street.
External roller shutters are bought for heat, security and privacy - a west-facing bedroom, a ground-floor window, or a holiday home left empty. A manual shutter is $400–$850 per window and a motorised one $700–$1,200; a service call with a minor fix is $120–$250.
Outdoor Blinds, Motorisation and Repairs: Blinds & Shutters Cost in Australia
Outdoor blinds are priced by type: a manual track-guided (zip) blind is $300–$450 per square metre and a motorised straight-drop outdoor roller blind $1,200–$2,500 per blind with the motor. Clear PVC cafe blinds are quoted per blind by size; no current source states a typical figure, so they are not a row here. Repairs are their own rows: a blind restring, chain or clutch repair is $110–$218 per job and a roller shutter service call with a minor fix $120–$250. Fitting a blind you bought yourself is $40–$150 per window.
Outdoor blinds close in verandahs, decks, alfresco areas and balconies. A manual zip blind is priced by area at $300–$450 per square metre, a motorised straight-drop blind is $1,200–$2,500 per blind, and a clear PVC cafe blind, quoted by size, keeps the view.
On the coast, ask what the brackets, channels and fixings are made of, because salt air is hard on metal; where storms are common, ask how each blind should be raised or secured in strong wind. In an apartment, check with the body corporate or owners corporation before ordering anything fixed to a balcony.
What Affects Blinds & Shutters Costs in Australia
Across Australia the product, the number and size of windows, and any motor or outdoor work decide where a quote lands; the city does not change the band.
Product type
A roller blind at $150–$350 and a fully fitted plantation shutter at $450–$750 are both per-window rows that sit far apart, so the product sets most of the quote.
Window size and shape
Tall sashes, bays and wide sliding doors push a per-window price up its band; oversized openings move to area pricing at $300–$800 per square metre for shutters.
Climate
Heat, cold, humidity and salt air steer a job onto different rows - a honeycomb blind at $200–$450, an external roller shutter at $400–$850, or coastal-grade fittings on an outdoor blind.
Motors
A battery or retrofit motor adds $150–$350 per internal blind; motorised roller shutters are $700–$1,200 per window and motorised outdoor blinds $1,200–$2,500 per blind.
Outdoor area
Zip blinds are priced on the area of the opening at $300–$450 per square metre, so the size of the deck or alfresco sets the quote.
Access
Upper-storey windows, high-set homes and apartment balconies take more time to measure and fit, which moves a quote towards the top of each band.
How to Save Money on Blinds & Shutters Cost in Australia
Blinds & Shutters Cost in Australia by Job Size
A small job is one or two windows or a repair - a bedroom roller at $150–$350, or a shutter service call at $120–$250. A whole-house fit-out repeats those rows across every window, so ask for a line per window rather than a single figure.
Large shutters and outdoor blinds scale with area: oversized plantation shutters are $300–$800 per square metre, and a deck or alfresco closed in with zip blinds is priced on the opening at $300–$450 per square metre.
Blinds & Shutters Cost in Australia: What the Quote Should Include
Blinds and shutters quotes anywhere in Australia compare best when each lists every window with its size, names the product and material, and shows motors, removal and outdoor fittings as separate lines.
- Each window listed with its width and drop, and the product priced against our rows - for example a custom roller blind at $150–$350 per window or plantation shutters at $450–$750 per standard window
- Whether the blind is inside-mounted or face-fitted, and who takes the measurements (the installer's own measure keeps the fit on them)
- The fabric, slat or panel material named - blockout or light-filtering fabric, aluminium or timber slats, PVC or basswood shutters
- Any motor priced as its own line: an internal blind motor is $150–$350 per blind on our table, and a motorised external roller shutter $700–$1,200 per window
- For outdoor blinds, the area in square metres for a zip blind at $300–$450 per square metre, or the width and drop for any other outdoor blind
- Removal and disposal of old blinds or curtains as its own line, so two quotes compare like for like
- For corded blinds, confirmation that the installation meets the corded window covering safety standard, with the installer's label attached
- The warranty on the product and on the installation, stated separately, and the lead time from measure to fit
- A single GST basis across every line, the installer's ABN and public liability insurance
Licences and Rules by State: Blinds & Shutters Cost in Australia
The corded blind standard applies nationally; the state wording below is what each regulator publishes about blinds, curtains and shutters, with no dollar threshold repeated here.
- All states (corded blinds and curtains) - Corded internal blinds and curtains in homes fall under a national mandatory installation standard (the 2014 safety standard for corded internal window coverings, administered by the ACCC). Installed cords must not be able to form a loop of 220 mm or longer below 1,600 mm above the floor, any cleat that secures a cord must sit at least 1,600 mm above the floor, and the installer must attach a label with their name and contact details. The ACCC says installers must comply and that fines and penalties may apply.
- Queensland - In Queensland, the QBCC Regulation 2018 lists hanging curtains and installing, maintaining or repairing blinds or internal window shutters (other than fire shutters) as work that is not building work. External roller shutters are not named in that item, so ask your installer whether a licence applies to a larger external shutter job.
- New South Wales - In New South Wales, a contractor licence is needed for residential building or trade work, including minor trade work, above a set job value, and the minor trade work licence carries endorsements for shade sails, awnings and security grilles. The NSW Government's minor trade work page does not name internal blinds, curtains or shutters, so ask whether your job needs a licence once it includes external fixtures.
- Victoria - In Victoria, a contract only for attaching external fixtures (such as awnings and security screens) is not building work to which the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995 applies; registration is needed when that work is combined with another listed type of building work under the same contract.
- Other states and territories - For external fixtures such as roller shutters and outdoor blinds, ask the installer which licence, if any, their work falls under in your state, and keep the installation label and warranty paperwork.
