In Greater Geelong a vehicle crossing permit is needed to build, extend, move or remove a crossing — $252, on the fee page current for 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, with an extra final inspection at $100. Only a qualified contractor engaged by the owner can apply.

Which finish you choose
A broom-finished plain slab is the least expensive of the poured finishes in our Geelong table, at $70–$140 a square metre. Colour through the mix lifts that to $88–$185, a stamped or stencilled pattern to $110–$185, and exposed aggregate to $110–$185, because the stones are seeded in and the top layer washed off to show them. The extra is mostly finishing labour.
The Vehicle Crossing Permit
Where a new driveway meets the street, the crossing between the kerb and your boundary needs a Vehicle Crossing Permit from the City of Greater Geelong. Only a suitably qualified contractor hired by the owner can apply, that contractor must hold at least $10 million in public liability cover, and $252 is paid with the application. Council inspects before you apply and again before the pour, and the finished crossing is yours to maintain.
Cutting out the old slab

Across a 40 sqm driveway that works out at roughly $1,120 to $3,720 before any new concrete goes down. Thick or heavily reinforced slabs, and spots a small excavator cannot reach, sit toward the top of that range.
A dry but cool climate
The Breakwater weather station records 510.3 mm of rain a year, with March the driest month at 24.2 mm and October the wettest at 56.3 mm (BOM averages). Cold is the bigger hurdle for a pour: July averages a top of 14.4 °C and an overnight low of 6.4 °C. Concrete gains strength slowly in the cold, so a mid-year job takes longer to finish and cure, and crews may wait for a milder day.
Mix strength, depth and mesh
Ready-mix at 25 MPa, delivered without labour, runs $280–$445 a cubic metre in Geelong, and some driveway quotes specify a stronger mix where cars will park.
