Humidity and timber
NCC climate zone 2 covers the Gold Coast, with warm, humid summers and mild winters. February is the wettest month at the Seaway station with 183.8 mm, and January nights average 21.9 °C (BOM averages). Solid timber and bamboo absorb that moisture and move, so they need time to settle indoors and a gap left at the edges. Vinyl and hybrid barely move, which makes them the safer pick through the wet months.

For bonded material, the City of Gold Coast says homeowners can remove less than 10 square metres, up to 250 kilograms, without Queensland Health approval; more than that needs a certificate or a licensed removalist.
Prep and labour-only installs
Click-together boards need a flat base, so a slab with hollows is ground or topped with levelling compound first, at $20–$88 per square metre. Skirting, if you are replacing it, is $10–$29 per lineal metre. Boards bought on special can be laid by an installer for $24–$54 per square metre, though any fault or shortfall in the product is then yours to sort out.
Licensing on larger jobs
Under QBCC rules, building work worth $3,300 or more needs a licensed contractor, and a whole-house floor can pass that mark: the 90 m² hybrid example above is well over it. Ask whether the installer treats your job as building work, and search the QBCC licensee register for their name before you pay a deposit.
