Dentist Cost in Gold Coast (2026)
On the Gold Coast, a dental fee is the sum of the items listed in your plan, and our table groups the most common of them into five bands. Routine care means a check-up, scale, clean and X-rays at $200–$360 and a tooth-coloured filling at $150–$410. Restorative work spans more: $920–$3,450 for a root canal, $1,200–$2,850 for a crown and $4,100–$7,450 for one implant with all stages included. The sections below cover what moves a quote within each band, how extras cover pays out, and how Queensland's free public dental service works for concession card holders.

- Townhouses, units and rent. Semi-detached homes and townhouses (21.1%) and flats or apartments (21.1%) each make up a far bigger share of Gold Coast dwellings than across Queensland, where the figures are 11.7% and 12.5%, and the median rent is $450 a week (ABS 2021 Census). With rent due every week, a crown or implant is easier to manage paid in stages; ask if you can pay as each appointment is completed.
- Queensland's free public dental. Free public dental care in Queensland is open to residents who carry a Queensland Seniors Card, a Centrelink pensioner or health care card, or a Seniors Health Card from the Commonwealth, and to their dependants. A child can qualify by living in Queensland or attending a school here, being eligible for Medicare and meeting one set criterion, such as holding a concession card or being eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
- Cosmetic work sits apart. Whitening and veneers are not among our five bands, and the Child Dental Benefits Schedule does not cover cosmetic or orthodontic work. Extras policies differ as well: not all of them cover every service, and nearly every benefit has a ceiling of some kind, such as per item or per year. Get the item numbers in writing before you ask your fund what it will pay.
- Root canals and endodontists. Work in the $920–$3,450 band can be handled by a general dentist, or the dentist may refer you to an endodontist. That is a protected title, reserved for dentists who hold specialist registration in endodontics. A referral adds a consultation and the specialist's own fees, so ask for their fee estimate on paper before booking.
- Same-day or two-visit crowns. Porcelain and zirconia crowns, $1,200–$2,850 on our table, are either milled at the practice in one sitting or made by an outside laboratory between two visits. The method, the material and the lab fee all feed the price. Ask which one your quote assumes, and whether adjustments after fitting cost extra.
- Inside the check-up fee. The check-up band of $200–$360 is three item numbers added together: 011 for the examination, 114 for the scale and clean, and 022 for X-rays. Two-bedroom homes make up 21.9% of Gold Coast dwellings, against 17% across Queensland (ABS 2021 Census); a couple sharing one booking still pays the band per person, X-rays included where they are due.
Is it cheaper to extract than to save the tooth?
An extraction is $200-$600, far less than a root canal, but replacing the tooth later with an implant costs $3,500-$7,300; saving a restorable tooth is usually the lower lifetime cost.
Where a tooth is not restorable, extraction with a planned replacement is the appropriate path; ask for both options itemised.
