Floor Tiling Costs

Our national prices split floor tiling into two parts: the tiler’s labour per square metre, and the tiles themselves. What’s The Damage’s November 2026 re-verification across 90+ sources puts labour for standard floor tiles at $40–$90 per m² nationally, $60 typical, and large format tiles at $60–$110. Budget ceramic tiles are $20–$55 per m². Lifting old tiles and levelling the floor are extra lines, all priced below, with a 20 m² floor added up.

Every row is a national labour price, GST included, with the tiles bought separately. Larger tiles and natural stone cost more per square metre to lay. A small job may be charged by time instead of by area.

A 20 m² floor worked through line by line: the old tiles lifted, the floor levelled, then mid-range porcelain laid at the standard labour rate. Each line is 20 times the national per-m² row above.
| 20 m² floor | Low | Typical | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lift and remove old tiles (20 m²) | $400 | $700 | $1,100 |
| Level and prepare the floor (20 m²) | $300 | $600 | $1,000 |
| Mid-range porcelain tiles (20 m²) | $1,000 | $1,400 | $2,400 |
| Tiler’s labour, standard floor tiles (20 m²) | $800 | $1,200 | $1,800 |
| Total, 20 m² floor | $2,500 | $3,900 | $6,300 |
A floor with no old tiles to lift, or one that is already level, leaves those lines off. Adhesive, grout and spare tiles for cuts are not priced here.
