Common questions

How does the Quote Checker work?

We compare your quote against our database of real pricing data sourced from industry bodies (Master Plumbers, HIA, Master Builders, Master Electricians), government data (Fair Work, ABS), and major trade platforms (hipages, ServiceSeeking, Oneflare, Airtasker). We show you where your quote falls on the spectrum from budget to premium for your specific job type and city.

Is a "high" quote always bad?

Not necessarily. Higher quotes can reflect better materials, more experienced tradies, included warranties, complex site conditions, or weekend/after-hours rates. A "high" result simply means it's above what most people pay — use it as a starting point to ask your tradie what's included, not as a reason to walk away.

How often is the pricing data updated?

Our pricing data is reviewed and updated quarterly. Current data reflects Q1 2026 market conditions across all 12 Australian cities.

Do you sell my data or connect me with tradies?

The Quote Checker itself collects zero data — it runs entirely in your browser with no accounts, no emails, and no tracking. Separately, our cost guide pages offer an optional form if you'd like to be connected with licensed tradies in your area, but that's completely your choice and has nothing to do with the Quote Checker.

Should I always go with the cheapest quote?

We'd actually caution against it. Suspiciously low quotes can indicate unlicensed work, cut corners, cheap materials, or no warranty. The "typical" range is usually the sweet spot — fair pricing from a qualified professional.
